From a Women’s Day event…

“Jane,” Written by Christine Balmes, Performed by Christine Balmes and Haniely Pableo 

Haniely and Christine are two-thirds of the Super Indays, a trio of Filipina Canadian poets and spoken word artists along with Jian Manalo, who create a narrative of truth and power. Using their experiences as young women of colour in the world, they play with poetic forms indigenous to the Philippines and use a multilingual approach to give voice to the multitude. 

They started out as participants of Poetry as a Second Language (PSL) workshops at the Kapisanan Philippine Centre for Arts and Culture (http://kapisanancentre.com/tag/poetry-is-our-second-language/) then ventured to doing collaborative projects with other young Filipino-Canadian emerging talents.

Ji-an Manalo is one of the directors of Artist for Change (http://artistsforchange.ca/) while Christine Balmes and Haniely Pableo are current members of the musical collective Santa Guerrilla (Check out: http://santaguerrilla1.bandcamp.com/album/santa-guerrilla-volume-1)
